Renovations for Birth & Beyond

2023

Thanks to everyone who provided support letters for the community infrastructure grant

The restumping and refurbishment of the Birth & Beyond building on Cullen Street has inched closer to its objective, marking a significant milestone with the submission of the grant application for funding. The $50,000 grant application would boost NCCI's contribution of $11,660 from reserve funds to repair one of Nimbin's iconic buildings.

Nimbin Environment Centre - home to Birth & Beyond

The renovation project will assist in delivering the essential work required to restore parts of the Nimbin Environment Centre at 54 Cullen Street to its former glory, including:

  • Replacing timber stumps and bearers with steel.

  • Replacing damaged window frames.

  • Replacing guttering and improving drainage on the site

  • Construction of a retaining wall.

Built in 1906 using locally sourced timber, the building has an incredible history and has survived many decades without any major work required. Due to funding constraints, the Nimbin Community Centre has spent years repairing, replacing and packing timber stumps, which are now considered beyond redemption and is not the best structural solution.

Known as the Union Jack building in 1973
