Community Feedback for the NCCI Grounds Redevelopment

Nimbin Community Centre is exploring options for the future redevelopment of the grounds at 81 Cullen Street. These concepts are still in the planning stage and any future works will be dependent on detailed costings, funding availability and community support.  Read more about our Grounds Redevelopment Project here.

Please take our Feedback Survey below.  Your feedback will help inform future planning and decision-making.

Community feedback must be submitted by 31 July 2026.

About You

How do you use the grounds of the Community Centre?

Stakeholder

Select all that apply to you

  1. Car parking relocation

One proposal is to relocate the current upper Cullen Street car park to the northern end of the grounds, at the current market site.

This could increase available car parking while also providing sealed surfaces and improved drainage for community events and markets.

  1. Market Expansion & Future Opportunities

If parking were relocated to the northern end of the grounds, this may create an opportunity to develop a more accessible and flexible space for markets, community events and future activities.

This space could support a range of possibilities, including evening markets, seasonal events, pop-up stalls, community gatherings and additional market spaces.

The intention is to explore how the grounds could better support community use, accessibility and future opportunities.

  1. Community Court

The current bitumen area behind Acacia Centre could be reimagined as a more welcoming, accessible and flexible community space.

This area could support a range of uses, such as gathering, seating, community activities, small events, gardens, shade, art, lighting or other ideas suggested by the community.

Please explain your preference:

  1. Fig Tree Near the Children's Centre

NCCI is currently considering the removal of the fig tree located next to the Day Care Centre.

This is not a decision being taken lightly. The tree’s root system is lifting nearby pathways and is also impacting the Day Care Centre building and outdoor play areas. We have sought advice from a number of relevant experts about possible options to manage the issue. Based on the advice received, removal has been recommended as the only practical option to address the ongoing impact on the Day Care Centre.

We understand this may be upsetting for some community members (us too!) as the tree is a valued part of the site.

How supportive are you of this decision if no viable alternative exists?
