Reflecting on the Aquarius Park Landcare information day

September 7th, the Nimbin community came together for a special event—the Aquarius Park Landcare Information Day. Held at 25 Sibley Street, behind the Bowlo, the event brought together nature lovers, community members and Landcare enthusiasts to learn, connect, and contribute to the future of the Rainbow Road Walking Track (RRWT).

It was a great day filled with learning, inspiration and a shared commitment to preserving our local environment. We were fortunate to be joined by passionate speakers and an eager group of community members ready to make a positive impact.

Key Highlights of the Day:

  • Introduction to Landcare: Participants gained a deeper understanding of what Landcare is all about and how we can work together to regenerate and sustain our natural landscapes.

  • Guided walk through Rainbow Road Walking Track (RRWT): A scenic walk led by our experts showcased the beauty of the area while introducing participants to the vision for RRWT’s future.

  • Weed identification and land regeneration: Attendees learned practical skills to identify invasive species and the importance of restoring native vegetation for a healthy ecosystem.

  • Volunteer and community-led planning: The event also opened up opportunities for community members to get involved in future Landcare initiatives. Our call for volunteers was met with enthusiasm and we look forward to seeing many of you join us as we move forward!

A special thanks to our speakers:

  • Hannah Rice-Hayes (Environmental Strategies Team, Lismore City Council) inspired us with her passion for conservation and shared her extensive experience in bush regeneration and community education.

  • John Blatch, with his 35 years of experience in bush restoration, provided valuable insight into practical bush regeneration techniques and encouraged our group to think long-term in our efforts.

  • Wil Polson (President of the Nimbin Community Centre and Economic Development Officer for Lismore City Council) shared an inspiring vision for the future of the Rainbow Road Walking Track, inviting the community to continue their involvement in this exciting project.

Looking Ahead:

With the success of the Aquarius Park Landcare Information Day, we are more excited than ever to continue working together as a community. Our shared passion for preserving and enhancing the natural beauty of Nimbin will drive the future of the Rainbow Road Walking Track.

For those who want to stay involved and keep up with the latest news, we invite you to join our new group, "Friends of Aquarius Park.".

Thank you to everyone who joined us - Love Nimbin Community Centre
